Our Story
It started in 2007 when Aaron and Angela Barbaro — drawing on years of hands-on experience as a technician for a local Caterpillar dealer — founded Independent Field Service in Syracuse, NY. For over 17 years, Independent Field Service built a reputation for factory-quality engine repair and honest service across the region.
In 2023, Aaron and Angela made the decision to sell Independent Field Service book of business to a nationwide power generation distributor. After honoring their full commitment to the acquiring company, they were ready for the next chapter.
That next chapter is Gulf Coast Power Systems. Founded by Aaron and Angela Barbaro, Gulf Coast Power Systems was built by merging the legacy of Independent Field Service with a fresh start in Southwest Florida. Along with the new company came a new home — 4820 Placida Road, Englewood, FL 34224.
Today, Gulf Coast Power Systems carries forward everything that made Independent Field Service trusted for 17+ years: factory-trained technicians, honest communication, and a relentless commitment to getting your equipment back in service.

Aaron Barbaro
Owner & Lead Technician
Factory-trained by Caterpillar and certified across multiple major engine brands, Aaron brings over 18 years of hands-on diesel engine experience to every job. He founded Independent Field Service in 2007 and later co-founded Gulf Coast Power Systems, carrying forward a legacy of dealer-quality repairs without the dealer overhead.
Angela Barbaro
Co-Owner & Operations Manager
Angela co-founded Gulf Coast Power Systems and oversees day-to-day operations, customer relations, and scheduling. Her organizational expertise keeps the shop running efficiently so customers get fast turnaround and clear communication from first call to final delivery.
Matthew Barbaro
Technician
Matthew has spent the last five years training in the field alongside Aaron, developing hands-on expertise in diesel engine diagnostics and repair. His attention to detail and mechanical aptitude make him a reliable part of every job.
Amanda Barbaro
Parts Specialist & Office Staff
Amanda manages parts sourcing, vendor relationships, and office operations. Her ability to track down hard-to-find components quickly keeps jobs moving and customers informed throughout the repair process.
